Thambi Durai - Director, Writer
He began his career in sales in 1992 after graduating as an electronics engineer. During the four decades he spent in Bangalore, he had the opportunity to watch numerous movies in different languages, a rarity in many other cities. He was among the enthusiastic audience members who eagerly attended first-day first-show screenings, experiencing the sheer euphoria and magic that great film personalities brought to the silver screen. This passion influenced him, although at the time, he was unaware that he would one day pursue this wonderful craft.
After working for various companies, including Canon and Xerox, he left his job in 2008 to chase his passion for filmmaking. He joined a film school in Bangalore, where he began to understand the fundamentals of filmmaking. He created a couple of short films and music videos, collaborating with friends who helped him enhance his practical knowledge. While learning the craft, he also took on the role of visiting faculty at two film schools in Bangalore, which allowed him to interact with young, passionate minds and learn alongside them.
In 2016, he completed his postgraduate studies in electronic media to gain a deeper understanding of the evolving entertainment industry. Eventually, he had the opportunity to work as an associate director on a Kannada film titled Days of Borapura, which was released in April 2018. He is dedicated to learning and sharing his knowledge with his students, becoming a part of their storytelling journey. Currently, he is collaborating with passionate filmmakers and is preparing to direct his first feature film, Cold Call.
